Amager Bryghus has dedicated a Bock to the freshest word in the Danish morning vocabulary, and it does not take itself too seriously: Morning Fresh, or Morgenfrisk, like the squirrel emerging from its winter hibernation, sprightly, chest puffed out and bursting with energy. This traditional Bock at 6.5% ABV and 24 IBU, which its own brewers ironically call a Hybrid Bock because it is not pale enough to be a Lichte Bock nor dark enough to be a Dunkler Bock, shows a deep amber colour and a proudly traditional character: full, generous malts that deliver notes of bread crust, caramel and gentle toast, a soft, round sweetness and a smooth body, alongside a classic Bock yeast that keeps everything clean and well defined. A Slovenian and an American hop complete the picture with a herbal, citrusy aromatic touch and a measured bitterness, enough to make German Bockbier purists tremble and send for an exorcist. It is no cure for morning grumpiness and Amager Bryghus would not recommend it as the first sip of the day, but when you need or have earned a beer, Morning Fresh arrives right on time, in a can and with a cheeky grin.
