Brugse Zot Dubbel is a dark version of the beer produced in the historic center of Bruges and is called "Brugse Zot". This name, which in Flemish means "Madmen of Bruges", is the name given to the inhabitants of the city due to ancient traditions and local legends. The young and resurgent Straffe Hendrik brewery which produces Brugse Zot beer has promoted the heritage and traditional brewing of the city of Bruges since its opening in 2005. To date it is the last brewery still active in the historic center of Bruges, which previously had a great variety. Brugse Zot Dubbel is produced with 6 particular types of malt which give it its dark color with bright reflections that distinguish it from its blonde sister. On the nose it offers aromas of caramel, toasted malt with beautiful notes of ripe fruit with a spicy touch of cinnamon. Finally comes a nice light bitterness brought by the famous Saaz hops, used to produce this Brugse Zot Dubbel. A fresh and stronger beer than its blonde version, it achieved consecration in 2011 with a silver medal at one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world, the Brewing Industry International Awards.
