Description
Legend has it that the origins of this beer go back to World War II, when an Italian-American soldier of Sicilian descent serving in the Pacific was captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy and, subjected to atrocious torture, heroically refused to reveal any information about his fellow soldiers, instead responding to the physical pain by always screaming the same phrase, which the Japanese, barely understanding it, transcribed as best they could make it out. TOSHORA MOSUKA! is the Japan Extra Pale Ale by Free Lions brewery, brewed with the addition of nori seaweed and rice flakes in the grain mix, which lend creaminess and depth to the flavour with a subtle hint of savouriness, and hopped primarily with the celebrated Sorachi Ace, the most renowned hop variety ever developed in the Land of the Rising Sun. It pours golden, with a dense and creamy head of medium-high persistence, while on the nose the Sorachi notes are clearly evident with their distinctive sensations of coconut, lemongrass and candied lemon. The palate entry is soft and silky, before giving way to a dry, clean and decidedly bitter finish, very vertical in character, still entirely built around the signature notes of this extraordinary hop. In this season of geopolitical upheaval, Free Lions wanted to raise a glass with this beer and shout TOSHORA MOSUKA! to all those who fail to appreciate the value of Peace.
