Description
Goose Island Beer Co.’s Bourbon County Brand Stout 2020 is the original bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout, offered here as a 14.6% ABV vintage that carries forward the brewery’s stated mission every year: to make it the best it has ever been, with the finest ingredients and the finest whiskey barrels. Goose Island’s stout rests for a year in a blend of bourbon barrels from a variety of distilleries, the time needed to build the kind of complexity that only patience can provide. The glass is dark and deep, with an aroma that opens on fudge, vanilla and caramel, three indulgent notes that merge with the warmth of the oak and the sweet, spiced touch left by the bourbon. On the palate the body is rich, full and enveloping, with great complexity and a long, warm finish that follows every sip. Best served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass or small snifter, enjoyed on its own at the end of a meal or alongside blue cheese, chocolate brownies and caramel desserts. A vintage that speaks to the consistency of a classic and that, with a few years in the cellar, will soften and gain even more depth.
