Goose Island Beer Co.’s Bourbon County Brand Stout 2019 is an Imperial Stout at 14.7% ABV, aged in a blend of Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey barrels that gives Goose Island’s stout a rare complexity and a rich, enveloping mouthfeel of remarkable depth. The glass opens on cocoa and fudge, joined by vanilla and caramel, while almond lends a soft, lightly toasted touch; in the background, notes of leather and tobacco add character and gravity to every sip, deepening as the beer warms in the glass. The contribution of three different bourbon barrels weaves together nuances of oak, sweet spice and boozy warmth in a surprising balance for a beer of this power.
