Description
Red wine made from 100% Lacrima, first bottled in 2023, sourced from a 0.8-hectare vineyard in Morro d’Alba (AN), facing south-east at 150 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils with a high percentage of active limestone. The vines, planted in 2003 and trained using a simple-double guyot system with a density of 2500 plants per hectare, produce 10–12 clusters per vine, about 1 kg, harvested manually in September with careful selection in the vineyard. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless-steel tanks, followed by 18 months of maturation on the lees in oak barriques and at least 3 months of bottle aging, with no fining or filtration. In the glass it shows an intense, impenetrable violet color, typical of the variety; the nose reveals characteristic aromas of rose and violet, red fruits, and notes of clove and spices. On the palate it offers powerful yet non-aggressive tannins, good body, and clear expressions of red fruits such as sour cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, with a pleasantly persistent finish. With an alcohol content of 13.5% and only 21 mg/l of total sulfites, it pairs beautifully with cured meats, traditional first courses such as homemade pasta with meat or game sauces, grilled meats, braised dishes, and slow-cooked game; thanks to its spicy and floral character, it also lends itself well to pairing with oriental cuisine.
