Eastside’s Fuochi Fatui is a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout of 13% pure power, matured for a full thirty months in ex-bourbon barrels and then enriched with Madagascar vanilla, coffee from Caffè Rinaldi Torrefazione Specialty of Ciampino, and cascara, the dried pulp of the cherry that encloses the coffee bean, chosen to lend notes of red fruit and tobacco. In the glass it appears thick and oily, fragrant, with a deep and endless flavour, a true magic potion in which the character of the wood, the spiced sweetness of vanilla, the roast of the coffee and the fruity touch of cascara chase one another across the palate. The name and label evoke the will-o’-the-wisps, the small blue-white flames once seen in cemeteries and marshes, to which many meanings have been attributed over time, first of all that of the souls of the departed, and it is precisely their colour that inspires the artwork. To complete a packaging perfect for the night of witches and spirits, the brewery has added generous silver sealing wax to close the bottle.
